# Illuminating Retail: Enhancing Sales with Backlit Signage

What draws you into a brick-and-mortar store? Is it the inviting atmosphere? Is it the signage? Could it be the lighting? Lighting plays a bigger role than you might think when it comes to the in-store shopping experience, influencing customer behavior and attracting new customers. Let’s look at all the ways incorporating backlit signage can enhance your retail space and increase sales.
**1. Enhances Visibility**
Lighting can draw in foot traffic from the street and make outdoor signage easier to read from a distance. For example, window displays with backlit signs can attract customers into the store, especially during the evenings or if the store is in a dark location. During the winter and holiday season when the sun sets early, you can add a warm glow to your holiday displays.

**2. Promotes Your Brand**
Show your brand in a good light–literally. Good lighting makes your brand look polished and professional. You can add dimensional logos or branded design elements throughout your backlit design to make shopping (and your brand) more fun and memorable.
**3. Provides Direction and Wayfinding**
Using wayfinding signage in the right place can guide customers through a store, highlighting certain areas or featuring products. LED lightboxes and backlit SEG (silicone edge graphic) are a versatile canvas to create illuminated backdrops or POP displays near the checkout for impulse buying.
**4. Creates the Right Mood**
Creating an inviting atmosphere with the right lighting impacts the way we perceive a shopping experience. Influence customer moods and with backlit in-store and wall displays.
**5. Engages Marketing and Sales**
Backlit signage can support sales and marketing efforts especially during sales, holidays, or special events. Integrating lighting effects into your strategy can help encourage purchases for a campaign or special promotion by drawing attention where you want the shopper to go. If you add digital signage into your backlit display, you can incorporate more frequent content updates and rotating promotional content.
